Woohoo! I made it! First blog post of 2018! More importantly though, I made it to the other side of 2017! What a year. So many tears, so many laughs. Here’s my uncensored, real and authentic year in review.
2017 went down as the year we did the first deployment. My husband left December 1st. I had no idea what I was in for. The girlies turned 2 and 3 this year. Need I say more? Such precious and formative ages. The part that got to me the most was the sadness that came in knowing that daddy didn’t get to experience the fun milestones that came along. My days were spent celebrating potty victories, reading the same stories ten times over, and cleaning. Lots and lots of cleaning. I learned to be intentional in cherishing the sweet giggles while playing pretend. It was cherishing the chaos in the silly little tantrums that was a bit more difficult. I learned to love the season of life I was in because these ages are precious and I’m not going to get it back.
The days were long and the evenings were longer, but 2017 was the year these two became real besties. These precious moments were the ones that got me through.
So that is the mom side to title as a “mom boss.” Now for the boss side of things. Thankfully bedtime has never been an issue for the girls, (awesome right) but with that came long evenings. I found that evenings were always the hardest. They were so quiet and lonely. So these were the nights where I took my workaholic tendencies and put them to good use. I painted my little heart out and kept on running my Etsy shop.
If the girls were napping, I was working. I worked on building the brand, creating new designs, and navigating the confusing world of social media marketing. I found a passion in all that, but It was also a nice distraction.
Once April came around we were about half way through the deployment and I received an e-mail that left me speechless (don’t worry it was a good kind of speechless!)This year I was given the opportunity to become an artist for Primitives by Kathy. My first collection of products I painted artwork for is now landing in stores across the country and my goodness….I can’t even explain the feeling that comes with that! The more I get to know Kathy and her team, the more fortunate I feel to be where I am. They are an incredible team of creatives over there. I remember that from a very young age, I envisioned a future of being an artist and a mom. At the age of 25, I have that. All I can say is God is so good. And I cannot wait to see what this year will bring.
2017 was a rough one and God gave me what I needed. I learned that I am much stronger than I knew, but only because of grace. I learned that family is EVERYTHING, and that life consists of seasons and they will come and go.
As for 2018, we are off to a really fun start! My husband is home and the launch of our new website went so well. We also just had a whirlwind of a week with my first experience at the Atlanta trade show. I was doing some live painting in front of my “everyday” collection inside of the Primitives by Kathy showroom! That was all kinds of incredible. There is a lot happening over here in my corner of the world these days!
As for goals and dreams for this year, I think you will just need to follow along for that, because I’m not sure what God has in store, but I know it’s going to be a good one!
